Fractional CO2 Laser Resurfacing

Laser skin rejuvenation can renew your complexion and improve your skin texture by treating a variety of superficial skin conditions.

We perform CO2 Laser resurfacing using a new laser by Sandstone Medical.  The procedure applies microscopic laser columns to the skin, which penetrate and wounds the skin in a neatly spaced pattern, stimulating the body’s natural healing response.  As an additional benefit, the laser energy heats the deeper layers of skin to stimulate collagen growth.

Who is a candidate for fractional resurfacing?

If you desire smoother, tighter, younger looking skin, you may be a candidate for fractional CO2 laser resurfacing. Patients who suffer from superficial skin conditions like the following are often good candidates for this procedure:

  • Sun damage/photodamage
  • Age spots
  • Fine lines
  • Wrinkles
  • Acne Scars
  • Enlarged pores
  • Uneven skin tone (vascular dyschromia)

Other age related conditions may be treated, but must be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

How is fractional laser resurfacing performed?

Treatments are usually administered in 1 – 3 sessions, depending on the patient and the intensity of the treatment. The physician scans the targeted skin in a controlled pattern, using a special handheld device. The columns of laser energy are applied in fractional increments, which limits the treated area and keeps surrounding skin intact. During your consultation you can specify your concerns and goals, and we’ll plan the treatment accordingly.

Benefits and advantages of fractional resurfacing:

  • Superior results compared to non-ablative skin rejuvenation treatments
  • Minimal downtime
  • Minimal chance of pigment loss
  • Safe and effective for all skin areas
  • Promotes tissue contraction and skin tightening
  • Improved appearance over time
  • Allows postponement of more invasive procedures (like a facelift)

What can I expect after fractional resurfacing treatment?

Within the first 3-10 days following your treatment, there will be some redness, swelling, and crusting. Most patients rest for part or all of that time before returning to their normal routine. Mild or moderate redness can last as long as 10 days, but can usually be covered with makeup.

It is wise to avoid scheduling any major social engagements for 3-4 weeks after the procedure. The recovery time for fractional repair is relatively short, the risk of complications is low, and the results last a long time.
