Juvederm
Depressions and bothersome wrinkles in the skin can be treated with injections of Juvederm in Owensboro. When performed by cosmetic surgeon Dr. Gerald Edds, treatments of Juvederm are able to reverse the appearance of some common signs of early aging on the face. This injectable filler gives volume to areas of the face that have lost it, making it a unique treatment in the fight against premature aging.
Who Can Benefit from Juvederm?
Juvederm is an injectable filler comprised of a hyaluronic acid gel. In your skin, hyaluronic acid provides necessary hydration, keeping your skin looking young, smooth and supple. As you age, your skin loses some of that hyaluronic acid and the effects of that, like reduced skin elasticity and volume cause wrinkles to appear. Juvederm helps to restore the effects of hyaluronic acid in your skin. Patients often choose treatments of Juvederm to correct:
- facial lines and wrinkles
- nasolabial folds
- hollow tear trough
- marionette lines
- facial contouring
In your consultation with Dr. Edds, he will examine your skin and explain the benefits of Juvederm. Based on your skin's unique needs, Dr. Edds will be able to craft a treatment plan, targeting areas of your face where lines or wrinkles have begun to form. He will explain the steps he takes, as well as what you should expect after your treatment.
What Is the Procedure Like?
Your Juvederm treatment will likely be brief. Most treatments can be completed in less than 45 minutes. An anesthetic is not necessary for a Juvederm treatment, as the injectable contains lidocaine to improve your comfort.
After your face has been cleansed, Dr. Edds will use a fine needle to inject the Juvederm solution into targeted areas of your face. He will use a special technique that may include crosshatching or linear threading. When injected beneath the surface of your skin, the solution will bind with the naturally occurring hyaluronic acid in your skin. Though some immediate correction will be necessary, Dr. Edds will likely massage the injection site gently with his hand. This will help to more evenly place the product.
What Recovery Steps Will I Take?
When you leave Dr. Edds practice following your Juvederm treatment, the skin at the treatment site may feel taut or overly full. This is completely normal and the sensation will subside soon. You may apply an icepack to the treatment site to help control swelling, if it occurs.
Dr. Edds will give you aftercare instructions to follow, but you should be able to resume much of your normal routine after treatment. Dr. Edds will ask you to avoid alcohol and exercise for several hours, as well as direct sun exposure.
The results of your Juvederm treatment can last six to 12 months. As the effects begin to wear off and the solution is naturally broken down by your body, you may wish to return to Dr. Edds' practice for touch-up treatments. To maintain the effect, less of the Juvederm solution is usually necessary.
